Virginia Beach, Virginia & Outer Banks, North Carolina | Father’s Day Weekend | June 17 – 19, 2022

Michael was on call twice in June, with one weekend in between off, Father’s Day weekend. We packed the Jeep up early and headed down to VA Beach early afternoon on Friday. We set up our tent at our favorite campground Holiday Trav-L Park, it was Arielle’s first tent camping trip! She did super well and I think likes sleeping outside more than in now. If you guys want a blog for traveling or camping (or both) with a toddler, let me know in the comments!!!! I took my camera and photos on my phone, they are all mixed together.

We started our weekend hanging around the campground pool and the tent. And went to Waterman’s, Michael’s favorite restaurant in Virginia Beach for Father’s Day dinner! We would go there all the time when we were locals, so it is a MUST STOP every vacation.

Saturday morning we actually OVERSLEPT! We were supposed to get up before the sun to catch the sunrise in Outer Banks, but we all slept in til 9! The whole point of this trip was to go to Grits Grill in Nags Head, OBX, North Carolina! This was also Arielle’s first time to the Outer Banks! Michael enjoyed his Father’s Day breakfast of Shrimp and Grits. And then we headed off to the NC Aquarium. Arielle LOVED the shark tank and the touch tanks. We also ran through their butterfly garden and Arielle fell in love with a stuffed horseshoe crab in the gift shop that she named “ThankHugh”. After the aquarium we drove down Beach Road and saw all the big colorful beach houses.

I was blown away with how WARM and BLUE the water was in OBX!

Later that night, we rode the trolley to the Virginia Beach boardwalk. We ate Dough Boys Pizza on 17th and then walked across the street for Dairy Queen ice cream and live music for Arielle to dance and run around.

Sunday morning we packed up the campsite, enjoyed the campground pool again and then drove down to the oceanfront just to drive through Atlantic Ave and reminisce of when we used to live in VA Beach. We also took Arielle by where our first apartment was and drove through Downtown Norfolk, because Michael used to work there.
